Today I’m highlighting one of Vogue’s historical moments. In August 1974, Beverly Johnson became the first African-American to be featured on the cover of the magazine.

Johnson’s thoughts on making history:
“At that moment, a major responsibility was thrust upon my shoulders and I knew I was forever to be the guardian of that place in history. I dedicated myself to live a life of significance to honor it. I set out to achieve more — to make sure that no model that came behind me had to struggle like I did, or be subjected to the rejection I had faced just because of the color of my skin.”
Who do you view as a face of change?

Amazing lady!!!! We can get strength from rejections, to continue what we really want to do, and not minding some people negative reactions!! -
I don't know if she was on Vogue, but I think Mary Tyler Moore changed the views of fashion. She played Laura Petri on the Dick Van Dyke show, which my mother always made me watch, and she made the pedal pusher pants popular. Back then, women only wore dresses on TV, and apparently this created quite the uproar. They made her stop and wear dresses, but the audiences wanted the Capris, so she was allowed to wear them one scene per episode. I remember my mother saying"look at that, that is really someone that stands her ground, you need to be like that!" I always stand up for myself and what I believe in, and this is thanks to my mother and strong women and little things like Capri pants! -
